Astrology
From New Age Village
Astrology refers to any of several systems of understanding, interpreting and organizing knowledge about reality and human existence. It's based on the relative positions and movement of various celestial bodies, chiefly the Sun, Moon, planets, and lunar nodes as seen at the time and place of a birth or other event being studied. Astrology can also be viewed as a cultural system of symbolism for talking about matters of the mind and personality in western culture. It has roots in alchemical and Hermetic tradition which were very influential until the 17th century.

Types of Astrology - The different branches of astrology.
- Natal Astrology - The department of Astrology which deals with nativities - the influence of planets and signs upon the life and character of the individual.
- Vedic (Jyotish) - Vedic astrology uses primarily the sidereal zodiac (in which stars are considered to be the fixed background against which the motion of the planets is measured), whereas most Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac.
- Horary Astrology - The art of interpreting the relationship between cosmic phenomena resulting from the ordered motions of the celestial bodies, and a thought, situation or event. It deals successfully only with concrete, well-defined queries, and its validity is subject to question when the particular problem to be analyzed is hazy in the mind of the querent, or ill-defined in its presentation to the astrologer.
- Mundane Astrology - An interpretation of Astrology in terms of world trends, the destinies of nations and of large groups of individuals, based on an analysis of the effects of Equinoxes, Solstices, New Moons, Eclipses, planetary conjunctions, and similar celestial phenomena; as distinguished from Natal Astrology, specifically applicable to an individual birth horoscope.
- Electional Astrology - Method by which to choose a suitable time for commencing any honestly conceived and reasonable project or endeavor, such as a marriage, journey, law-suit, building operation, engaging in a new business or profession, the reconciling of opponents, drawing up a will, buying land or house, planting a garden, launching a ship, moving into a new home.
- Astrocartography (Locational Astrology) - An astrocartography chart is a natal chart super-imposed on a map of the world. The planetary placements and aspects are depicted as lines flowing through countries and oceans, sometimes crossing each other and creating a power point; sometimes many converging on one area, and actually canceling each other out.
Twelve Sun Signs
According to the traditions of astrology, the first key to a character analysis of any individual lies in the position of the Sun in his birth sign. This shows his basic character, with emphasis placed on the spiritual qualities of his nature.
